With only one yellow caution flag for the 40-lap main event, Shawnigan
Lake’s Jeff “the iceman” Bird
drove to the checkered for a 2nd place finish with his #55 Sprint car
in Saturday’s Lavender Cup race at Western Speedway, followed by his
friend Dan Fisher from Cobble Hill for 3rd place with the #10 car.
After a blown engine in an NSRA race in June, fellow racer Cam McLean
from Duncan was not able
to drive his #26 car, so was back in his former position as crew chief
for the #55 team.
Running a busy schedule in both the WilRoc and the American NSRA series,
Bird is having another
great season: several trophy dash and heat race wins, a very exciting
3rd fastest time in
Ephrata Washington against the high-powered NSRA cars, 2nd place in
the Strawberry Cup,
and he is gearing up for more cross-border track action coming up throughout
July, August, and September.
Jeff would like to thank the team (Jeremy Bird, Wayne Campbell,
Cam McLean, and Joanne Faulkner),
the fans, and the sponsors of the #55 car this year!
