Jeff Bird and his JACK FM Sprint Car #55 put on quite a show Saturday night at Western Speedway in Victoria. The sun was out and the track was hot; out of an entry of 18 Sprints, Jeff qualified 6th at 14.90 seconds, putting him in the Fast Heat. A rookie driver in Sprint #82 hit the wall hard on turn 2 in Qualifying, destroying the front axle. Car #10 also had a spin-out, with no damage. In the Fast Heat, the JACK FM #55 car jumped into the lead with Sprint #33 right up on his rear bumper. It was a tight race, with several high-speed close calls as the two battled it out for the lead. Jeff didn't let up and was ahead by just a tenth of a second to take the checkered flag.

The Main Event was just as exciting. 50 laps went speeding by with only one yellow and lots of cheering from the fans. Jeff started outside row 3 and the car looked like it was hooked up really well on the outside. After running wheel to wheel with a few cars for several laps, Jeff finally moved into 2nd place to start his pursuit of the leader. After closing the gap to within 4/10 of a second, his tires were starting to lose their grip. Late in the race Jeff stepped on the throttle hard coming off of turn 2 in an attempt to move into the lead. The extra heat to the tires made for some slippery corners, and Jeff had to back off in order to maintain control. The JACK FM #55 car finished in 3rd place!

Jeff is interviewed by Matt, then congratulated by "Bullet" (track owner).

The fans were thrilled to come down into the pits after the Main Event to meet their favourite drivers. The #55 Crew was kept busy even after the race, having the car parked on the front straight. Many small kids as well as "big kids" (the dads) wanted a turn sitting in the #55 car and Jeff was busy signing autographs on his new 2004 trader cards.

Watch for the JACK FM/DSS Welding/Kustom Pro Management/Advantage Racewear Sprint Car at the Victoria Day Parade.
